Brake Performance Testing
Brake performance can be tested to help assess whether the vehicle is stopping effectively and consistently.
Testing can assist with identifying braking concerns that may not always be obvious during normal driving.
Brake Rotor & Drum Condition
Brake rotor thickness should be checked against the applicable wear limits. Excessive wear, scoring or distortion can affect braking performance and may require machining or replacement.
Where appropriate, UMR Engines can machine brake discs or drums as part of the repair process.
Brake Fluid Testing
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. Excessive moisture contamination can reduce braking performance and contribute to internal corrosion within hydraulic components.
UMR Engines can electronically test brake fluid condition and advise when replacement should be considered.
Brake Callipers & Hydraulic Components
Brake callipers, wheel cylinders, master cylinders and other hydraulic components should be checked for leaks, damaged seals, corrosion and restricted movement.
Depending on component condition, availability and repair requirements, replacement or servicing may be recommended.
Brake Pads & Shoes
Brake pads and shoes need to suit the vehicle and its normal operating conditions. Pad compounds can differ in noise, dust, wear characteristics and braking performance.
UMR Engines can recommend suitable replacement components based on the vehicle, condition of the braking system and required repair.
Brake Hoses & Lines
Flexible brake hoses can deteriorate with age and should be inspected for cracking, perishing, twisting, leaks and other damage.
Because hoses and lines carry hydraulic pressure between the brake pedal and wheel brakes, their condition is an important part of a complete brake inspection.
