Mechanical Repairs, Diagnostics & Engine Reconditioning

UMR Engines carries out mechanical repairs, fault diagnosis, servicing and engine repairs across a wide range of passenger vehicles, 4WDs and light commercial vehicles.

What sets the workshop apart is the combination of mechanical repair facilities, diagnostic equipment and engine reconditioning and machining capabilities. This allows many specialised engine and machining operations to be handled as part of the same overall repair process.

Mechanical Workshop Services

Our mechanical workshop can diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle problems, including:

  • General mechanical repairs
  • Engine and vehicle diagnostics
  • Engine repairs
  • Engine reconditioning
  • Vehicle servicing
  • Brake repairs
  • Clutch repairs and replacement
  • Steering and suspension repairs
  • Cooling system repairs
  • Fuel system diagnosis and repairs
  • LPG diagnosis and repairs
  • Pre-purchase inspections

Mechanical & Engine Repairs

Many mechanical workshops need to send specialised engine components elsewhere for machining or reconditioning.

UMR Engines combines qualified mechanical repair work with engine reconditioning and machining facilities. Where applicable, this allows the mechanical fault, engine condition and required machining work to be considered together as part of the overall repair.

Our workshop experience ranges from routine servicing and mechanical repairs through to cylinder head work, engine repairs and complete engine reconditioning.

Vehicle Diagnostics

Modern vehicle diagnosis often requires more than reading a fault code. UMR Engines uses diagnostic scan equipment and electrical testing equipment to investigate engine-management and vehicle faults.

Diagnostic information can be combined with mechanical testing and workshop inspection to help establish the actual cause of a problem before repairs are undertaken.

This is particularly useful where a vehicle has intermittent faults, warning lights, poor performance, unusual fuel consumption or problems that only appear under particular operating conditions.

Rolling Road Diagnosis

UMR Engines also has road-test rollers built into the undercover workshop driveway.

The rollers allow the vehicle’s engine and drivetrain to be operated while stationary in the workshop, providing another way of investigating faults that may occur under particular speeds or operating conditions.

Diagnostic equipment can also be connected while the vehicle is being operated on the rollers, allowing information to be observed while attempting to reproduce the reported problem.

Fuel System Diagnosis

Fuel-system and engine-running problems can require several different forms of testing. UMR Engines has fuel-system diagnostic equipment including an exhaust gas analyser and fuel injector cleaning and testing equipment.

Exhaust gas analysis can provide useful information about combustion and mixture condition, while injector testing can help identify differences in injector flow and spray performance.

For petrol engines, approximately 14.7:1 is the commonly recognised stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, while LPG requires a slightly different mixture. UMR Engines uses a four-gas exhaust analyser to assess combustion and mixture operation on petrol and LPG vehicles, helping diagnose fuel-system, tuning and engine-running problems.

Workshop Equipment

Having the appropriate equipment available within the workshop can reduce the need to move vehicles or components between different repair businesses.

UMR Engines workshop facilities include equipment for:

  • Vehicle lifting and mechanical repairs
  • Electronic vehicle diagnostics
  • Electrical testing
  • Exhaust gas analysis
  • Fuel injector testing and cleaning
  • Rolling road diagnosis
  • Cylinder head machining
  • Engine machining
  • Engine reconditioning

Cars, 4WDs & Light Commercial Vehicles

UMR Engines works on a wide range of makes and models including Ford, Holden, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and many others.

Our experience includes everyday passenger vehicles, 4WDs and light commercial vehicles as well as older vehicles requiring repairs that may involve more than straightforward component replacement.

Where a repair involves both mechanical and engine-reconditioning work, having those capabilities within the same operation can be particularly useful.

Engine Reconditioning & Machining

UMR Engines has a long history in engine reconditioning as well as general mechanical repairs. Engine components can be cleaned, inspected, measured, machined and reconditioned where required as part of the repair process.

UMR Engines can assist with vehicles requiring a reconditioned cylinder head, blown head gasket repairs, engine repairs or complete engine reconditioning.
